Recommendations for Books with Dragons
In C2C #329B, Dawn in NC requests suggestions for more books about dragons or with dragons in them. She's already burned through all the McCaffrey Pern books, and is craving more dragon stories.

I've started the list over at dragonpage.com, The Search for Dragon Stories, so feel free to make additions there or here, for everyone to enjoy.

Here's the start of the list:

Melanie Rawn: Dragon Prince trilogy
Dragon Prince, The Star Scroll, Sunrunner’s Fire

Melanie Rawn: Dragon Star trilogy
Stronghold, The Dragon Token, Skybowl

Both series have amazing dragon art covers by Michael Whelan.

Elizabeth Lynn: Dragon’s Winter and Dragon’s Treasure

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman: Dragonlance Chronicles Trilogy
Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, Dragons of Spring Dawning

Alison Baird: The Dragon Throne Trilogy
Stone of the Stars, Empire of the Stars, Archons of the Stars

Martin H. Greenberg: edited the anthology Dragon Fantastic
Alan Dean Foster: edited the anthology Smart Dragons, Foolish Elves

and of course, Mistress of the Dragon by Michael R. Mennenga

I have to mention Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett.

And for the kids? - well, apart from 150+ other Dragonlance books, there's always Christopher Paolini's Eragon trilogy...

RE: Recommendations for Books with Dragons
One of my current favorites is the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. The basic concept is an alternative history of the Napoleonic Wars in which dragons exist and often serve as a sort of airforce. It sounds a bit silly when described as such, but the concept does work, sort of Horatio Hornblower meets F'lar (It has some similar concepts as Pern, such as intelligent dragons and an impression of sorts at hatching, but no telepathy, no between).

Temeraire series, by Naomi Novik:
His Majesty's Dragon
Throne of Jade
Black Powder War
Empire of Ivory
Victory of Eagles

Yah... I'd mentioned the Novik series in the show, but forgot to put them on the list. D'oh!

One of these days I'll have to borrow the books from Mike and read them Smiley

I've always liked Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly and the dragons in Ursula le Guin's Earthsea novels, particularly Talessin. But I've also just read a new YA/crossover novel, Thornspell by Helen Lowe, which has a very cool dragon in it--but any more and that would be a spoiler.

One book I enjoyed when it came out was Bitterwood by James Maxey, from Solaris Books. It's by no means a deep book; I'd compare it to a summer popcorn flick. But it was a lot of fun and had an interesting take on dragons.

There's a sequel out called Dragonforce. I haven't picked it up yet, but it looks good.

RE: Recommendations for Books with Dragons
The very first fantasy novel I ever read, way back when, was the Joel Rosenberg series: Guardians of the Flame. In the first 5 or 6 novels, a dragon was a very important member of the cast (I'm unsure if he showed up much in the later books and spin-offs).

There was also the Dragonlord series by Joanne Bertin. Only read the first one and I think it was a fairly good romance-fantasy.

I know that Timothy Zahn has a YA series called the Dragonback adventures - they seem well received, though I haven't read them yet.

Don't quite know if these have what people would count as 'dragons' but here goes:

* The Farseer/ Liveship Trader/ Tawny Man Series by Robin Hobb
* The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Michael Swanwick

Summer... You forgot a Mike....

Mike Stackpole -
The Dragon Crown War:
The Dark Glory War, Fortress Draconis, When Dragons Rage, The Grand Crusade

If you have not read it... a very good series.

I actually like Buried Fire by Jonathan Stroud. It isn't a trilogy and isn't a big book but I did like it.
